Novello Festival of Reading
Though 2010 would have marked the 20th occurrence of the Library’s much-loved Novello Festival of Reading, recent budget cuts and staffing reductions have also meant reductions in the services the library is able to provide, Therefore, the Novello Festival of Reading will not take place in 2010.
However, thanks to a grass roots effort, “A Tribute to Novello” will serve to keep the spirit of Novello alive. This effort, being led by UNC Charlotte professor Mark West will take place October 1, 2 and 9. Instead of a week's worth of events, A Tribute to Novello will take place over two consecutive weekends in October. October 1 and 2 will feature adult authors and Oct. 9 will feature young adult and children's authors. Pat Siegfried, a former librarian with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and current owner of Black Forest Books and Toys, will head up the youth events. West will coordinate the adult events. Since its beginning in 1991, the Novello Festival of Reading provided an opportunity to connect book lovers and authors for a unique, personal literary experience, and has brought many illustrious authors to the Charlotte area, including Kurt Vonnegut, Toni Morrison, Ray Bradbury, Amy Tan, Bob Woodward, John Grisham and many others.
The Library thanks the many corporate and foundation supporters who have made past Novello Festival of Reading events possible.
